Jefferson City, Mo. - Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced today the first federal indictments obtained by a Special Assistant United States Attorney (SAUSA) under the Safer Streets Initiative in the Western District of Missouri were handed down in Springfield. Tony Brown, one of the three Assistant Attorneys General deputized as SAUSAs as part of the Safer Streets Initiative in Kansas City and Springfield secured the public indictments, which were unsealed on August 22, 2019.

Jefferson City, Mo. – Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced today good news in the fight against illegal robocalls. As a result of a bipartisan, public/private coalition of 51 attorneys general, including Missouri, and 12 phone companies, the phone companies have agreed to adopt eight key principles to fight illegal robocalls. This agreement will not only protect phone users from illegal robocalls, but it will also make it easier for attorneys general to investigate and prosecute bad actors.

Jefferson City, Mo. – Today, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced that Assistant Attorneys General from the Attorney General’s Office were sworn in as Special Assistant United States Attorneys (SAUSAs) in Kansas City and Springfield as part of the Safer Streets Initiative. Two attorneys and a legal secretary were added in Kansas City and an attorney and legal secretary were added in Springfield, augmenting prosecutorial might in the fight to curb alarming violent crime rates. The Safer Streets Initiative was launched in St. Louis in late January and expanded to Kansas City and Springfield in February.

Jefferson City, Mo. – In his first seven months in office, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt and the Consumer Protection Section of the Missouri Attorney General’s Office secured over $13 million in judgments and settlements for the state of Missouri and Missourians. The amount obtained in judgments and settlements in the first seven months of 2019 has surpassed the total amount obtained in 2018.

Jefferson City, Mo. – Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced today the conviction and sentencing of a St. Charles contractor who scammed residents out of thousands. Matthew Chapman pled guilty in May to four counts of unlawful merchandising practices in St. Charles County. Today, Chapman was sentenced to six years in the Missouri Department of Corrections, with that sentence being suspended and Chapman placed on five years of supervised probation. Chapman will have to repay over $33,000 in restitution to four St. Charles couples, complete 40 hours of community service, and write letters of apology to his victims.
