JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – This afternoon, the United States District Court, Western District of Louisiana granted Missouri and 23 other states’ request for preliminary injunction in their lawsuit against the Biden Administration over their planned cancellation of Title 42. Because of this preliminary injunction, Title 42 will remain in place. Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt released the following statement:

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Today, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt filed lawsuits against six school districts (Special School District of St. Louis, Maplewood Richmond Heights, Clayton, Ladue, Webster Groves, and Mehlville) for reimposing their mask mandates on school-age children. The lawsuits argue that the school districts, through arbitrarily set “triggers,” reimplemented their mask mandates. The Missouri Attorney General’s Office previously sued a number of school districts across the state for imposing mask mandates, all of whom have dropped those mandates. Now, as schools are reimplementing forced masking, the Attorney General’s Office is again taking legal action to empower parents and protect Missouri’s children.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced today that his Office joined a coalition of 8 states in filing a civil rights lawsuit against Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Xavier Becerra and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Chiquita Brooks-Lasure, opposing a new rule that allows higher compensation for doctors who enact an “anti-racism” plan. Two private doctors are also plaintiffs in the suit.

JEFFERSON CITY, MO. – Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt today secured roughly $2.5 million in restitution from the owner of TurboTax, Intuit Inc. (Intuit), for deceiving consumers into paying for tax services that should have been free. As a result of a multistate agreement, Intuit will pay $141 million in restitution to millions of consumers across the nation who were unfairly charged. In addition, Intuit must suspend TurboTax’s “free, free, free” ad campaign that lured customers with promises of free tax preparation services, only to deceive them into paying for services. All 50 states and the District of Columbia have signed onto the agreement. Missouri will receive roughly $2.5 million for approximately 80,000 consumers who were deceived into paying to file their federal tax return.

Today, Missouri, Louisiana, Arizona, and 11 other states filed a lawsuit against the Biden Administration for their proposed asylum rule change at the Southern border that largely removes federal immigration judges from the asylum review process and instead gives asylum officers within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) unprecedented authority to grant asylum to migrants outright. Today, Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced that late last night, a Randolph County jury convicted Sadiq J. Moore, 25, of Second-Degree Murder, First Degree Burglary, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and three counts of Armed Criminal Action after a three-day jury trial. The jury convicted Moore of assisting two others with carrying out a home invasion just before 5:00 a.m. in Mexico, Missouri on June 27, 2020.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced today the entry of a consent judgment against Happy Fun Events, LLC, Owen Spencer Hunn, and Martha Hunn. The Hunns owned Happy Fun Events, a Utah-based company, that put on “Lantern Fest” events around the country. Happy Fun Events had scheduled an event in Jefferson County for November 2018 that it ultimately never put on. Though thousands of consumers had purchased tickets to the event (at a value of more than $230,000), Happy Fun Events never refunded their money.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Attorney General Schmitt today joined 20 other states in a multistate action against President Biden’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s continued use of the unlawful mask mandate on public transportation. The attorneys general argue that the mandate exceeds the authority of the CDC. The Biden administration continues to use a failed interpretation of a quarantine statute—that has been ruled against in court several times—to authorize the CDC’s rule.
