Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt and Governor Mike Parson announced today the start Consumer Protection Week in Missouri, a week dedicated to raising awareness about scams and fraud facing consumers and bringing attention to efforts to prevent, investigate, and prosecute scams and fraud. National Consumer Protection Week, which is put on by the Federal Trade Commission, occurs nationwide from March 1 to March 7. Thanks to a gubernatorial proclamation from Governor Parson, March 1 to 7 is now designated as Missouri Consumer Protection Week.

The third batch of untested sexual assault kits identified by Missouri Attorney General Schmitt’s SAFE Kits Initiative inventory have been delivered to a private lab for testing. The kits were gathered at the St. Joseph Police Department as a “host agency” and sent directly to the private lab to preserve the chain of custody and streamline the process.

Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt and Joplin Police Department Chief Sloan Rowland announced today that the second batch of untested sexual assault kits identified in the SAFE Kits Initiative inventory were sent to a private lab on Friday. The untested sexual assault kits were gathered at Joplin Police Department as a “host agency” from more remote departments to preserve the chain of custody and streamline the process.

The Missouri Attorney General’s Office and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources today filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Reclamation, and several other officials to stop the construction of a water diversion project in North Dakota.

Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt today filed a motion in the Cole County Circuit Court, arguing that because of a recent Missouri Supreme Court ruling, the Attorney General’s Office should be allowed to enforce certain Senate Bill 5 provisions. Those provisions impose a more stringent 12.5% cap on revenue collected from fines and fees and require minimum standards for municipalities in St. Louis County.

Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced today that his office has successfully committed two sexually violent predators. Timmy Powell, 59, of Jackson County, and Jerry Davis, 62, of Buchanan County were both committed as sexually violent predators in the past two weeks.

Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced today that on January 27, 2020, Missouri and several other states have reached an agreement with web-based electronic health records (“EHR”) company, Practice Fusion, Inc. to settle allegations that the company accepted payments from specific drug manufacturers in exchange for promoting some of the same manufacturers’ drugs to physicians using Practice Fusion’s software.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri Attorney General Schmitt today joined a bipartisan coalition of all 56 attorneys general in calling for Congress to permanently classify fentanyl-related substances as Schedule I drugs. Schedule I drugs are defined as drugs with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt today sent a letter to Dr. Matt Robinson, superintendent of the Cameron R-1 School District, supporting the school football team’s voluntary prayer sessions outside of games. On October 28, the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) sent a letter to the Cameron school district decrying their prayer sessions before and after games.
