Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt, as part of his Office’s Hope Initiative, today in a press conference announced four civil lawsuits have been filed against illicit massage businesses operating in Missouri. The four illicit massage businesses that were sued are A Little Massage in Laclede County, Blue Lotus Asian Massage in Cole County, Shangri-La Massage in Jackson County, and Ella’s Asian Massage in Clay County. Additionally, Attorney General Schmitt provided an update on the Hope Initiative, which aims to crack down on illicit massage businesses across the state, and the Lee’s Summit Police Department provided an update on an investigation related to the Hope Initiative.

As part of his push to celebrate the State’s Bicentennial, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt launched the Attorney General’s Honors Award, or AG Honors, to recognize citizens from across the state for exceptional service and dedication to their community. Starting earlier this year, the Attorney General’s Office began identifying citizens for the award, and sent an AG Honors Award out to 10 individuals last week.

Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced today that his Office has prevailed in federal appeals court in the case Turtle Island Foods, SPC v. State of Missouri, otherwise known as the fake meat labeling case. Earlier this morning, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit affirmed the District Court’s ruling in the Attorney General’s favor.

Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt today filed a lawsuit against the United States Department of the Treasury and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen over the interpretation of a mandate in the American Rescue Plan Act that would force states to choose between accepting COVID-19 relief funds or exercising their sovereignty over state tax policy.

On Wednesday, Dustin D. Jones was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Greg Kays to 105 months (8 years and 9 months) in federal prison for unlawfully possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. This case was handled and prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney (SAUSA) Brandon Gibson through the Attorney General’s Safer Streets Initiative.

Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt joined a coalition of thirteen states in filing suit against the Biden Administration for imposing a moratorium on future oil and gas leasing and drilling permits on federal land. The lawsuit contends that the moratorium on leasing through the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act (OCSLA) and the Mineral Leasing Act (MLA) violates that Administrative Procedure Act.

Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt today announced a multistate settlement with Boston Scientific Corporation (Boston) to resolve allegations of deceptive marketing of its surgical mesh products for women. The settlement requires Boston to pay $188.6 million to 47 states and the District of Columbia to resolve allegations that it deceptively marketed transvaginal surgical mesh devices to patients. Missouri’s share of the settlement is $3,851,244 million.

Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced today that his office has filed a lawsuit against Missouri contractor Jeffrey Anderson. The lawsuit alleges that Anderson, doing business as All Star Basements, West County Basements, and West County Concrete, violated Missouri consumer protection laws by taking advance payments of more than $195,000 from Missouri residents in exchange for home remodeling and construction work which he failed to complete.

Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt today announced his office’s findings after reviewing all available existing evidence and any available new evidence in the Tory Sanders case. Consistent with the findings of then-Attorney General Josh Hawley and the U.S. Attorney’s Office, who also consulted with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division, the Attorney General’s Office found through their review of the case that there is not enough evidence to prove first or second degree murder charges in this case. Charges other than first or second degree murder are not possible due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
