JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced today that Laurie Lund, a formerly licensed dog breeder in Hickory County, was once again held in contempt of court for her unlawful acts and violations of previous court orders. Following a two-day hearing, on June 22, 2022, the Court agreed with the Attorney General’s Office and again found Ms. Lund in contempt. The Court ordered the immediate seizure of all dogs from Ms. Lund’s property, authorized the Department of Agriculture to inspect her premises without notice up to six times annually even though she is no longer licensed, and ordered her to pay another fine.

Following the Supreme Court of the United States’ ruling in Dobbs that overturns Roe v. Wade, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt today issued an opinion to the Missouri Revisor of Statutes that “triggers” parts of Missouri’s House Bill 126, effectively ending abortion in the State of Missouri. Missouri is the first state in the country to do so.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Today, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt scored a major win for Second Amendment rights across the country with the United States Supreme Court ruling in New York State Rifle and Pistol Club v. Bruen. In a 6-3 vote, the Supreme Court declare New York’s subjective-issue, or “may issue,” firearm license regime unconstitutional and reversed the Second Circuit’s decision. Missouri and Arizona led the way in filing an amicus brief in the case in 2021.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt joined an amicus brief in National Pork Producers Council v. Karen Ross, urging the United States Supreme Court to overturn the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decision upholding California’s Proposition 12. California’s Proposition 12 requires states to comply with California regulations on the confinement of breeding pigs, egg-laying hens, and veal calves in order to sell those products in California.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Missouri Attorney General Schmitt announced today that Missouri has joined with 49 other states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the federal government to settle allegations of fraud against Mallinckrodt ARD, LLC (formerly known as Questcor Pharmaceuticals, Inc.), a U.S. subsidiary of the Irish pharmaceutical company Mallinckrodt plc (collectively Mallinckrodt), which sells and markets pharmaceutical products throughout the nation. Mallinckrodt’s U.S. headquarters is in Bedminster, New Jersey. The total value of the settlement is $233,707,865.18, plus interest, to be paid over a period of seven years. Of this amount, Missouri’s total Medicaid recovery will be $4,101,750.73, with $2,613,164.02 of that going to the federal government and $1,488,586.71 going directly to Missouri. The Missouri Medicaid program is funded by Missouri and federal funds. When Medicaid funds are recovered they are distributed appropriately to the funding entities.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced today that his office joined a coalition of 24 states opposing The Security and Exchange Commission’s Proposed Rule requiring publicly-traded companies to disclose climate related risks of their businesses to investors. Businesses would be required to calculate and disclose emissions levels for their entire supply chains, potentially imposing significant costs on those businesses with very little benefit.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Today, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt subpoenaed seven school districts (Mehlville School District, Webster Groves School District, Jefferson City School District, Lee’s Summit R-7 School District, Park Hill School District, Springfield School District, and Neosho School District) demanding information on the school districts decision to employ student surveys, potentially without parental consent, including some that asked students about their parents’ political beliefs and parents’ income levels and included racially-biased questions, among other things. JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Today, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt filed lawsuits against six school districts (Special School District of St. Louis, Maplewood Richmond Heights, Clayton, Ladue, Webster Groves, and Mehlville) for reimposing their mask mandates on school-age children. The lawsuits argue that the school districts, through arbitrarily set “triggers,” reimplemented their mask mandates. The Missouri Attorney General’s Office previously sued a number of school districts across the state for imposing mask mandates, all of whom have dropped those mandates. Now, as schools are reimplementing forced masking, the Attorney General’s Office is again taking legal action to empower parents and protect Missouri’s children.

JEFFERSON CITY, MO. – Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt today secured roughly $2.5 million in restitution from the owner of TurboTax, Intuit Inc. (Intuit), for deceiving consumers into paying for tax services that should have been free. As a result of a multistate agreement, Intuit will pay $141 million in restitution to millions of consumers across the nation who were unfairly charged. In addition, Intuit must suspend TurboTax’s “free, free, free” ad campaign that lured customers with promises of free tax preparation services, only to deceive them into paying for services. All 50 states and the District of Columbia have signed onto the agreement. Missouri will receive roughly $2.5 million for approximately 80,000 consumers who were deceived into paying to file their federal tax return.
