Nixon, health agency reps tout AG program to get free or reduced-cost drugs to seniors
February 19, 2008 Representatives of agencies that provide health services and services to Missouri seniors joined Attorney General Jay Nixon on Feb. 19 as he announced that $630,000 in technology grants would be available to help match the prescription drug needs of seniors and low-income Missourians with nearly 200 programs from pharmaceutical companies that offer free or reduced-cost drugs. The money comes from a settlement Nixon reached with Caremark, one of the nation's largest pharmacy benefits management companies. Nixon is encouraging local health organizations and other agencies to apply for the grants.
John Howell (pictured) of the Pomme de Terre Wellness Clinic praised the program as a way to help Missourians with their prescription needs without costing taxpayers, as Nixon and June Huff, Director of Community Services for the Southwest Missouri Office on Aging, look on.
