AG Koster says more than 61,000 cell phones registered on Missouriís no call list

Jefferson City, Mo. – Attorney General Chris Koster said today that 61,219 cell phone numbers have been registered on Missouri’s no call registry since Thursday, the first day the expanded registry was available. Missourians can register on the Attorney General’s website at ago.mo.gov or by phone at 866-662-2551.

Koster is calling for Missourians to register their cell phones as Governor Nixon yesterday signed into law House Bill 1549, which enables Missourians to register their cell phone numbers on the no call list to avoid receiving unwanted telemarketing calls on their cell phones and text messages.

“The response to adding cell phones to the no call registry has been tremendous,” Koster said. “We want people to tell their family members, friends and coworkers that signing up is quick and easy, either on our website or by calling an automated number.”

Koster said the expanded law covers only cell phones that are primarily used for personal and family use. Cell phones that are used primarily for business are not covered.

The no-call registry is updated quarterly, so everyone who adds their mobile numbers to the list by July 31 will be covered October 1. Everyone signing up after July 31 and before November 1 will be covered beginning January 1.

More than 1.8 million Missouri households are currently on the no call registry for residential phones.
