Jefferson City, Mo. – Attorney General Chris Koster today issued the following statement regarding the Cole County Circuit Court’s ruling in the case of Thomas A. Schweich v. Jeremiah W. Nixon:
“The Court’s ruling reinforces the broad and long-standing constitutional authority vested in Missouri’s governors to control the rate of governmental spending and balance our state’s budget. The judgment unequivocally affirms that the authority to control the rate of spending is constitutionally granted by the people directly to the Governor. The Attorney General’s Office will review the entire ruling in the coming days to determine if any further action is necessary.”
