Jefferson City, Mo. - In the Missouri Senate, then-Senator Chris Koster sponsored and championed this legislation because of the fact that deputy sheriffs across Missouri are dangerously underpaid. Attorney General Koster was gratified by today's unanimous ruling by the Missouri Supreme Court in favor of the law.
"Young men and women in uniform across our state are daily asked to put their lives at risk in order to secure our own," Koster said. "It is unconscionable that in some communities, deputy sheriffs are paid wages that qualify them for food stamps. Today's ruling is not a final answer, but it at least a step in the right direction."
