St. Louis, Mo. - A Chesterfield business that accepted payment from consumers for laser aesthetic services but failed to provide those services will pay $100,000 in consumer restitution and costs under an agreement obtained by Attorney General Jay Nixon. Nixon's assurance of voluntary compliance with Laser Aesthetic Institute LLC, which did business as Sona Med Spa, was approved today by St. Louis City Circuit Judge David Dowd. Laser Aesthetic Institute, which is no longer in business, was located at 16216 Baxter Road, Suite 300, in Chesterfield.
Nixon says Laser Aesthetic Institute sold contracts to consumers related to laser aesthetics, including laser hair removal, and was responsible for collecting all payments and administering all services under the contracts. The Attorney General says Laser Aesthetic Institute violated state consumer protection laws when it received payments from consumers but failed to provide the services promised under the laser aesthetic service contracts, and also failed to provide refunds.
According to today's agreement, Laser Aesthetic Institute LLC will make a payment of $100,000 to cover restitution for Missouri consumers. That amount will also cover the Attorney General's costs for investigating the case.
In addition, violation of any term of today's agreement could result in contempt of court proceedings and civil penalties of up to $2,000 per violation. Laser Aesthetic Institute LLC and its operators also agreed to pay a stipulated civil penalty of $1,000 for future violations of state consumer protection laws.
