St. Joseph, Mo. - Attorney General Jay Nixon was recognized for his dedication and support for the rights of crime victims today by the Missouri Victim Assistance (MOVA) network, which honored Nixon for his leadership on the issue during his 16 years as Attorney General. MOVA President Shana Morrison presented the award to Nixon today at the annual Buchanan County Crime Victims' Rights Week breakfast in St. Joseph.
"I am humbled and grateful to be recognized by those who share my belief that ensuring the rights of crime victims is a year-round, never-ending commitment," Nixon said. "This is my 16th and final year of speaking at Crime Victims' Week ceremonies around the state as Attorney General, and I remain as honored today as I was in April 1993 to stand alongside those who have shown tremendous courage in the face of adversity."
The award from MOVA salutes the Attorney General "in appreciation of 16 years of being a friend and advocate of protecting the rights of crime victims."
During his tenure as Attorney General, Nixon has been a leader in calling for greater access to courtroom proceedings and increased notification of hearings for victims. Nixon has also been at the forefront in providing important information to Missourians about resources available to crime victims.
