Former Crawford County collector found guilty on 22 counts of felony stealing in case prosecuted by Nixon's office

Greenville, Mo. - The former collector for Crawford County has been found guilty of stealing more than $335,000 from the county. After a Feb. 26 bench trial held in Wayne County on a change of venue, Associate Circuit Judge Randy Schuller this week found Danny Gladden guilty on 22 felony charges of stealing prosecuted by the office of Attorney General Jay Nixon.

Gladden faces up to seven years in prison and a $5,000 fine on each of the counts at sentencing, which is scheduled for June 20. Gladden resigned as county collector in 2005 after being charged with one count of stealing by the Crawford County prosecuting attorney. The Attorney General’s Office, which was appointed as special prosecutor, filed additional charges against Gladden. A state audit had discovered the deficiency in an audit of the collector’s office.
