Attorney General's News Release

February 20, 2008

Companies fronted by Kevin Trudeau settle with Nixon, agree to change business practices

Jefferson City, Mo. — Two companies that sell health-related products through TV infomercials featuring Kevin Trudeau have provided almost $1,100 in refunds to Missouri consumers and agreed to change the way they do business, Attorney General Jay Nixon announced today. The agreement resolves Nixon’s concerns that the company was repeatedly charging consumers for merchandise they did not order.

Natural Cures uses infomercials to sell books that claim to promote healthy lifestyles. But many consumers who ordered the books complained to the Attorney General’s Office that they were also given a subscription for a newsletter they never ordered, followed by repeated bills for the newsletter.

In the agreement with Nixon, Natural Cures, which also goes by ITV Global Inc., agrees to stop charging consumers for items not requested, using consumer bank or credit card accounts for billing the consumers did not authorize, charging more than the amounts advertised, and delaying delivery of requested products.

The court-approved agreement was entered as an assurance of voluntary compliance in Cole County Circuit Court.
