Jefferson City, Mo. — Attorney General Jay Nixon today announced the release of an updated consumer publication in Spanish. The revised edition of Know Your Rights (Conozca sus derechos in Spanish) offers new information on cell phones, used cars, identity theft, managing credit and other consumer issues including common scams targeting Hispanics.
"Since I offered our first Spanish consumer publications in 2005, the response has been overwhelmingly positive from consumers and advocates for Hispanics in Missouri," Nixon said. "These consumers, especially those new to the United States, face enough challenges without being taken in by a con artist."
Nixon's office also publishes Landlord-Tenant Law in Spanish, which summarizes the rights and responsibilities of renters and landlords under Missouri law. Since their release in 2005, the Attorney General has distributed more than 10,000 copies of the two publications.
Both publications, updated periodically to reflect changes in state law, have long been available in English and are among the most requested by Missouri consumers. The English version of Know Your Rights was updated in February of this year.
Both publications are available in English and Spanish at no charge by calling the Consumer Protection Hotline at 1-800-392-8222 or by downloading them at the Attorney General's Web site at ago.mo.gov.
