Attorney General's News Release

October 31, 2007

Attorney General’s Office employees donate 900 pounds of food to Central Missouri Food Bank

Jefferson City, Mo. — Attorney General Jay Nixon today congratulated employees of his office for their generous contributions to hungry families during a recent charity drive called Make a Difference Day. Members of Nixon’s staff contributed 896 pounds of non-perishable food items, such as canned goods, peanut butter, soups, cereal and macaroni and cheese. All the food was donated during a two-week period in mid-October.

"I am proud of my employees, who have proved they are not only dedicated public servants, but compassionate individuals who care about helping their fellow central Missourians in need," Nixon said. All the food donated has been collected by the Central Missouri Food Bank in Columbia, which estimates that amount of food can provide nearly 700 meals.

Nixon encourages central Missourians to give generously to good causes, especially with the holidays approaching. The Central Missouri Food Bank is available online at centralmofoodbank.org or by phone at 1-800-764-3663. The Food Bank serves needy families in central and northeast Missouri. It estimates that 100,000 people in those areas live in poverty, many of them children.

Missourians wanting to make financial contributions to charities can visit the Check-a-Charity section at the Attorney General’s Web site, ago.mo.gov. The site offers descriptions and financial information for more than 800 charities that solicit funds in Missouri.
