Jefferson City, Mo. — Attorney General Jay Nixon will join law enforcement officers from around the state in Jefferson City to remember and honor Missouri officers who died in the line of duty. Nixon will be the guest speaker at the 20th annual Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Service to be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 5, at the Law Enforcement Memorial on the grounds of the state Capitol.
Nixon has served as the guest speaker at the memorial service several times since taking office as Attorney General in 1993.
The annual event is sponsored by the Missouri State Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police. This year, two names will be added to the memorial: Deputy Andy T. Early of the Audrain County Sheriff’s Department, and Officer Michael J. Burke of the St. Louis Police Department.
The service will feature a presentation of memorial wreaths by several of the law enforcement agencies present; a rendition of “Amazing Grace” by the St. Louis County Police Pipes and Drums; and a riderless horse ceremony by the St. Charles Mounted Police.
