Attorney General's News Release

April 3, 2007

Nixon’s office appointed to assist McDonald County prosecutor in 2005 double homicide trial

Pineville, Mo.— The office of Attorney General Jay Nixon has been appointed special assistant prosecutor in a 2005 double homicide case in McDonald County. Levi A. King (DOB -9/4/82) of Pineville is charged with two counts of first degree murder for the Sept. 29, 2005 slaying of Orlie and Dawn McCool in rural McDonald County. Nixon was appointed special assistant prosecutor in the case at the request of McDonald County prosecutor Janice Durbin.

King was paroled by the Missouri Department of Corrections in July 2005 after serving 17 months of a 14-year prison sentence for arson and burglary. He then violated his parole by walking away from a community release center in St. Louis on Sept. 23, 2005. In addition to being charged with two counts first degree murder, King is also charged with first and second degree burglary, stealing and armed criminal action.

As in all criminal cases, the charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
