Jefferson City, Mo. — With the arrival of prom and graduation season, many parents are concerned about their teens finding themselves in situations involving alcohol. Attorney General Jay Nixon reminds parents that they have the greatest amount of influence with their teens and encourages them to communicate early and often with them about the dangers of underage drinking.
"Too often the tragedy of one bad decision can ruin prom and graduation season for an entire community," Nixon says. "It's my hope that parents will be more mindful and vigilant of the need to encourage their children and friends to make the responsible decision not to drink alcohol."
Nixon has teamed up with two organizations, The Century Council and Family Talk Online, to provide information to parents on ways to talks to their children about underage drinking. Both organizations have detailed information on their Web sites, centurycouncil.org and familytalkonline.com.
