Jefferson City, Mo. — Attorney General Jay Nixon today encouraged any Missourians not currently on the state's No Call list to register by Aug. 1. Those consumers who register on or before Aug. 1 will be on the next updated list, which will become effective Oct. 1. The list is now helping more than 2.5 million Missouri residents enjoy peace and quiet by reducing unwanted telemarketing calls.
Missourians can register their home telephone number on the No Call list by going online at www.moago.org or by calling toll-free 1-866-NO CALL 1 (1-866-662-2551).
"Signing up for the No Call list is quick, simple and free," Nixon said. "If you haven't already signed up, you may be getting your neighbors' telemarketing calls."
There are currently more than 1,020,000 Missouri residential telephone number on the No Call list. The Attorney General's Office has obtained court order requiring 73 telemarketers to pay $610,000 to the state for calling No Call team members during the first year of the law. A Florida company that operates Miss Cleo's psychic hot line paid the most — $75,000 — for violating the law.
Those already on the No Call list may file complaints about telemarketing calls by downloading a complaint form or by calling the toll-free number.
