Jefferson City, Mo. — Missourians who want to give their mothers the gift of peace and quiet along with flowers or candy for Mother's Day should register Mom's phone number on the No Call list, Attorney General Jay Nixon said today.
Nixon reminded Missourians that May 1 is the next deadline to sign up for the hugely popular No Call list to reduce telemarketing calls they receive at home. People registering their telephone numbers by May 1 will be covered under the No Call list that goes out July 1, the one-year anniversary of the No Call law taking effect.
“Missourians have embraced the No Call program because it works,” Nixon said. “Registration is easy, and violators are quickly punished. It's a simple formula that has led to quiet phones at dinnertime around Missouri.”
As of April 22, almost 944,000 home telephone numbers were on the No Call list. Nixon said the number represented an estimated 2.4 million Missourians out of a total state population of 5.6 million.
Signing up for No Call is quick, simple and free, Nixon said. Missourians can register at the Attorney General's Web site at www.ago.mo.gov or register through a toll-free number, 1-866-NOCALL1 (1-866-662-2551). Those already on the No Call list may file complaints about telemarketing calls by downloading a complaint form or calling the toll-free number.
In the 10 months that the No Call list has been in effect, Nixon has collected $540,000 from 65 telemarketers who called Missourians on the No Call list. Among the money collected was $75,000 from the psychic hot line service that features Miss Cleo in its television commercials.
