State Supreme Court sets Sept. 13 execution date for man convicted of 1989 murder in Kansas City

Jefferson City, Mo. — The Missouri Supreme Court today set a Sept. 13 execution date for George Bernard "Baby" Harris, sentenced to die for the March 11, 1989 murder of Stanley "Hank" Willoughby.

Harris (DOB - 2/9/59) had purchased two machine guns and gave them to Willoughby for safekeeping. When Harris returned to claim the weapons and Willoughby could not immediately produce them, Harris pulled out a revolver from his waistband and fatally shot Willoughby in the lower face and neck. Harris was arrested four days later in Columbia, Mo., after he committed an armed robbery there.

Harris was convicted in Jackson County on charges of first degree murder and armed criminal action and sentenced to death.
