"Think before you link" booklet offers tips on avoiding Internet fraud

Jefferson City, Mo. — Attorney General Jay Nixon is offering advice to Missourians on avoiding Internet fraud in a new booklet titled "Think before you link." The free 16-page booklet gives tips on such areas as shopping online, Internet auctions, business and investment opportunities, and identity theft.

"The Internet has dramatically changed the way we communicate and do business, with the number of Web sites increasing exponentially each year," Nixon said. "Consumers on the Web should be savvy surfers, because there is no shortage of cybercriminals who want to separate them from their money or identity."

To obtain a copy of the "Think before you link" booklet, consumers can e-mail the AG's Consumer Protection Division.

Inquiries from consumers should be directed to consumer@ago.mo.gov or 1-800-392-8222 (from within Missouri) or 573-751-3321 (outside Missouri).

All media inquiries should be directed to Press Secretary John Fougere.
