Columbia, Mo. — Attorney General Jay Nixon and Boone County Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Crane today jointly filed felony charges against Wayne J. Jaegers and Bobby Rohrer.
Jaegers (DOB - 3/23/57) and Rohrer (DOB - 2/4/65), who were arrested earlier today by Boone County sheriff's deputies, each have been charged with two counts of securities fraud, one count of stealing by deceit and one count of attempt to steal by deceit.
The complaints allege that both men took money from investors on the premise that the investments would be used to purchase diamonds, which then would be sold at a profit. The complaints state that the pair did not obtain the diamonds with the investments nor did they intend to do so. The complaints also allege that Jaegers and Rohrer made false statements to investors as part of a scheme to defraud them.
Securities fraud is punishable by a prison term of up to ten years and a fine of up to $500,000 on each count. Stealing by deceit is a class C felony under Missouri law, punishable by up to seven years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Attempt to commit the offense of stealing by deceit is a class D felony, punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Crane said anyone who has information about or has had prior dealings with either Rohrer or Jaegers should call the Boone County Sheriff's Department at 573-875-1111.
The charges against Jaegers and Rohrer are merely accusations; as in all criminal cases, the defendants are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
