Jefferson City, Mo. — Attorney General Jay Nixon announced today that MFA Oil Co. has paid $38,000 under an agreement with his office and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to resolve allegations the company violated state hazardous waste management laws at its Paris Road facility in Columbia.
The MDNR issued citations to MFA in May 1998 and August 1998 after an inspection of the maintenance warehouse and truck service shop at 2412 Paris Road. MFA uses the facility to service and store fuel pumps and service and maintain vehicles.
The inspection determined that the company had been operating the Paris Road facility as a treatment, storage or disposal facility for hazardous waste without a permit; had failed to utilize a licensed hazardous waste transporter; had failed to comply with several registration, reporting and tracking requirements; and had failed to determine if certain solid wastes were hazardous.
