Independence, Mo. — Two Kansas homebuilders who constructed homes in Jackson County have agreed to pay more than $21,000 in payments, penalties and costs to resolve an investigation by Attorney General Jay Nixon.
Nixon said Mill Harbor Inc., operated by Lynn and Sally Goodman, performed shoddy workmanship and failed to honor warranties on new homes the company built in the Raintree Lake subdivision in Lee's Summit. The company agreed to pay $19,811 to six homeowners for failure to repair problems that existed during the warranty periods. The Goodmans also agreed to post a $10,000 bond before building any more new homes in Missouri.
"Buying a home is the biggest investment most people will ever make," Nixon said. "Contractors and homebuilders should honor the promises they make to homeowners."
Mill Harbor also has agreed to make payments to additional homeowners whose warranties it failed to honor, if the homeowners file a complaint with the Attorney General's Office by November 10, 1999. To file a complaint, call the Attorney General's Office in Kansas City at 816-889-5000.
