Jefferson City, Mo. — Attorney General Jay Nixon today filed an amended charge of first degree murder in Nodaway County against William Taylor, accused of killing his wife with a combine Nov. 10. The Attorney General’s Office was appointed special prosecutor in the case last month. A charge of second degree murder originally was filed against Taylor by the Nodaway County prosecutor.
"After reviewing the facts of this case, we believe there is enough evidence of deliberation to recharge Mr. Taylor with first degree murder,” Nixon said.
An arraignment date has not been set for Taylor. Nixon said his office had not determined whether it would seek the death penalty. The charge against Taylor is merely an accusation and he is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
