Law Students

The Attorney General's Office seeks the best and brightest law students committed to public service. To that end, we encourage applicants from throughout the United States to apply for a paid summer or semester clerkship, or permanent employment as an Assistant Attorney General.

Assistant Attorneys General hail from law schools throughout the nation, not just Missouri. Our attorneys consistently are well ranked in their classes and often have a considerable amount of professional experience outside the legal field that adds value to their public service.

We have on staff former judicial law clerks - including a clerk for the late Justice Rehnquist - former associates and partners at law firms large and small, as well as career public servants. The diversity and the wealth of knowledge possessed by the attorneys working here rivals what may be found in most legal environments. When coupled with our commitment to ensure that this knowledge is shared through on-the-job training and mentoring opportunities, the resources available to our newest attorneys ensure that they can be potent practitioners of the law.

Indeed, many attorneys choose to make their legal careers at the Attorney General's Office. While we particularly value that commitment, it is important to note that current alumni from our office include Congressmen, Senators, partners at large law firms, corporate counsel, state legislators, and judges at all levels of the judiciary, including the United States Supreme Court.

Remuneration

The starting salary for Spring 2007 law school graduates is $32,000 upon passage of the Bar exam.

2L Summer Clerks are paid $10 per hour.
1L Summer Clerks are paid $9 per hour.
