  • AG Schmitt Resolves Lawsuit with City of Diamond Over Traffic Ticket Quotas

    Jefferson City, Mo. – Today, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced that his lawsuit with the City of Diamond has been resolved. Attorney General Schmitt filed the lawsuit against the City of Diamond in April, alleging that members of the city’s police force were enforcing a traffic ticket quota in order to generate more revenue for the city. The settlement agreement stipulates that the City of Diamond will have to implement internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance in the future, and host a mandatory training for the Mayor, members of the Board of Aldermen, and the Chief of Police regarding the requirements of relevant state statutes.

  • Pharmacist Ordered to Repay $125,000 to Missouri’s Medicaid Program

    Jefferson City, Mo. - Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced that Steven Baraban, pursuant to a plea agreement, was sentenced in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri to 3 years probation and ordered to repay Missouri’s Medicaid program $125,102.50. Baraban’s sentencing follows his March 1, 2019, guilty plea to one count of health care fraud.

    St. Louis, Mo. – Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced today that the first federal indictment obtained by a Special Assistant United States Attorney (SAUSA) under the Safer Streets Initiative was handed down in St. Louis. One of five Assistant Attorneys General deputized as SAUSAs as part of the Safer Streets Initiative in St. Louis secured the indictment on June 6, 2019, and the indictment recently was unsealed.

Among all participants in the joint crackdown, called “Operation Call it Quits,” 94 actions have been taken targeting operations around the country responsible for more than one billion calls pitching a variety of products and services, including credit card interest rate reduction services, money-making opportunities, and medical alert systems.

  • AG Schmitt Announces Multistate Settlement with Private Lender that Will Deliver over $4.7 Million in Debt Relief to Former Missouri ITT Tech Students

(June 14, 2019) – Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced today that the Missouri Attorney General’s Office has secured an agreement to obtain over $4.7 million in debt relief for approximately 600 former ITT Tech students in Missouri as part of a multistate settlement. Nationally, the settlement will result in debt relief of more than $168 million for more than 18,000 former students at ITT Tech, the failed for-profit college. The settlement is with Student CU Connect CUSO, LLC (“CUSO”), which offered loans to finance students’ tuition at ITT Tech.

(June 11, 2019) – Today, Attorney General Schmitt filed a motion to add additional claims in the state of Missouri’s lawsuit against Purdue Pharma and other defendants and ramp up efforts to hold manufacturers accountable. Attorney General Schmitt has continued the state of Missouri’s lawsuit against Purdue Pharma, Endo Pharmaceuticals, and Janssen Pharmaceuticals and their parent company Johnson and Johnson. Today, Schmitt expanded the claims against Purdue Pharma and other defendants, alleging public nuisance and unjust enrichment.
