Jefferson City, Mo. - Please see the following statement from Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt in light of an initial settlement framework with Cardinal Health, McKesson, AmerisourceBergen, Johnson & Johnson, and Teva, agreed to by Attorneys General Stein, Slatery, Shapiro, and Paxton on Monday:

“I’m pleased with the progress being made in moving towards a settlement, and I’m grateful for the work of the other attorneys general who have fought tooth and nail to get to this point in holding these major opioid manufacturers and distributors responsible for their actions. The simple truth is: Missourians need help, and they need it now - they can’t afford to wait for years and years of litigation. Just last year, nearly 1,000 Missourians died from opioid related overdoses, meaning 1 in every 65 death was due to opioid overdose. I’ve seen first hand the devastation caused by the opioid crisis in our state. To get Missourians the help they desperately need, it’s my hope that we continue to progress towards a settlement.”
