Job Description

The Missouri Attorney General’s Office is seeking highly motivated, responsible law students who are committed to public service to serve as summer interns/externs. The Office has several openings in its Jefferson City, Kansas City, and St. Louis offices within each of the office’s eight divisions. Eligible candidates must have graduated in the top 50% of their class, with preference given to those who graduated in the top 30% of their class. Please include your class rank on your resume.

The Missouri Attorney General’s Summer Intern Program offers students a unique opportunity to learn how to practice in many areas of the law including criminal prosecutions, consumer protection enforcement actions, environmental litigation, debt collection, bankruptcy, worker’s compensation, appellate, employment, constitutional law, and defense. Interns will visit the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri’s Central Division Courthouse, Jefferson City Correctional Center, Missouri Capitol, and Missouri Supreme Court. In addition, the Office plans periodic networking events and other opportunities to learn about the practice of government law in Missouri.

Interested first-year and second-year law students may apply by submitting a resume, writing sample, and cover letter to Pam Coffey at P.O. Box 899, Jefferson City, MO 65102 or interns@ago.mo.gov. Please indicate division and location preference in the cover letter. Applications will be considered on a rolling-basis until positions are filled, but not later than April 1, 2014.

The Intern Program begins on Tuesday, May 27 and ends on Friday, August 8, 2014. Interns will not be compensated, but will be expected to work forty hours per week, though exceptions may apply in order to accommodate course schedules, split summers, and second jobs.
