Nixon takes action to stop pollution of Table Rock Lake

Kansas City, Mo. — Attorney General Jay Nixon has filed a lawsuit to stop ongoing pollution problems from a small motel near Lampe that intermittently discharges wastewater, threatening the water quality of Table Rock Lake. The lawsuit seeks a court order requiring Harold and Jo Cresswell, the owners of Shoreline Resort, to construct a new wastewater treatment plant to replace the single-cell lagoon that currently receives wastewater from the 15-unit motel.

Kansas City non-profit agency will complete $400,000 in environmental projects, pay $50,000 penalty to resolve concerns about asbestos removal at Citadel Plaza project

Kansas City, Mo. — A non-profit agency that improperly removed asbestos during demolition at the Citadel Plaza Redevelopment Project in Kansas City will undertake several environmental projects worth an estimated $400,000 as part of a settlement with Attorney General Jay Nixon. Nixon said the settlement with the Community Development Corporation of Kansas City (CDCKC), which also includes a $50,000 penalty, resolves the state's concerns about notification, removal and disposal problems with asbestos at the project at 63rd Street and Prospect Avenue.

Clayton, Mo. — The owner of the Peerless Landfill in Valley Park must complete installation of a gas management system to adequately control methane and other gases migrating from the demolition waste landfill, under a consent judgment obtained today by Attorney General Jay Nixon in St. Louis County Circuit Court.

St. Louis, Mo. — Several St. Louis-area developers responsible for polluting streams and lakes with runoff from three construction sites will adhere to a strict compliance program at future construction projects, clean up past pollution, and pay one of the largest environmental penalties of its kind in state history under a consent decree reached with the United States, Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon and the city of Wildwood, Mo.

Jefferson City, Mo. — The owners of six gas station sites around the state are putting human health and the environment at risk by violating the Missouri Underground and Petroleum Storage Tank (UST) Law despite being given numerous opportunities to comply with the law, Attorney General Jay Nixon says. Nixon filed lawsuits this week against gas station owners in St. Louis, Columbia, Hannibal, Boonville, Vienna and Senath to require them to follow the law.

Warrensburg, Mo. — Citing violations of Missouri's Air Conservation Law, Attorney General Jay Nixon today filed a lawsuit against a Higginsville man over allegations that the man engaged in open burning on two occasions. The lawsuit was filed in Johnson County Circuit Court, in the county where the alleged incidents took place.

Nixon files lawsuit to stop pollution from unpermitted sewage lagoon at Cass County subdivision near Belton

Harrisonville, Mo. — A lagoon that discharges untreated and partially treated sewage from a nearby subdivision near Belton must be replaced or the subdivision must be connected to an available nearby sewer system, Attorney General Jay Nixon demanded in a lawsuit filed today. Either way, Nixon said, the pollution from the lagoon must stop.

Troy, Mo. — A rural Lincoln County man who was cited for the open burning of tires in violation of the Missouri Air Conservation Law is the target of a lawsuit filed today by Attorney General Jay Nixon. Nixon's lawsuit against Charles Cunningham of Foley, filed in Lincoln County Circuit Court, is seeking an injunction and civil penalties.
