The Attorney General's Office has the responsibility of protecting Missouri's rights in court with respect to the federal government and other state government's manipulation of Missouri River water levels.

On February 10, 2009, Attorney General Chris Koster sent a letter to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, to provide comments regarding the Corps of Engineer's proposed Environmental Impact Statement on commercial sand and gravel dredging in the Missouri River.

On February 23, 2009, Attorney General Koster's filed a petition in federal court against the federal government to stop the Northwest Area Water Supply Project.

On February 22, 2010, Attorney General Koster sent a letter urging to the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works) to direct the Army Corps of Engineers to changes its implementation of the Missouri River Authorized Purposes Study.
