Know Your Rights

There is no law, federal or state, that requires stores to accept return merchandise. Most stores will accept returns and give refunds or credit, but it's not required by law. For that reason, it's important to read a store's return policy before buying.

There is also no three-day right to return big-ticket items, contrary to popular belief, and Missouri's Lemon Law only applies to new cars under warranty, not used cars.

There are very few cases where the law allows a right to cancel a contract. These include door-to-door sales, timeshares and travel clubs.
