Cracking down on telemarketing hits $3 million milestone
Missouri consumers like their No Call list. So when a telemarketer violates the law by calling them, those consumers file complaints. Many times those complaints lead to lawsuits by AG Nixon. And those lawsuits lead to court orders requiring telemarketers to pay.
Our enforcement efforts have now hit the $3 million mark with those court orders. So as I've written before - you can't say it doesn't do any good to complain.
File your complaints against telemarketers with us here.

Please consider revising Missouri's No-Call law to include charities. Last night I received calls from four different organizations, each solicitor more obnoxious than the last. We have caller ID, so I know that there were calls from two other organizations during the day. When direct marketing preferences prohibited organizations from mailing to consumers, they switched to telemarketing where they are protected. Please consider protecting consumer privacy rather than charitable organizations. I don't find it terribly charitable to be disturbed four times during the evening. Thanks for listening!

To Cindy:
We agree the No Call list should be expanded, in other areas as well. But as you can see, those efforts have not been successful in the Missouri legislature. Also, I'm not aware of the prohibitions you mention on sending charitable solicitations through the mail. Most consumers, especially those who respond and give money, receive lots of these.
