Change in MO ticket scalping law

Last month, the Missouri Legislature met in special session and overwhelmingly passed what has been called an "economic-development package."

While this package was intended to create a number of tax breaks for businesses and provide funding for repairing bridges, there is one provision that concerns consumers and sports fans alike. Ticket scalping will soon be legal in Missouri.

Currently, selling tickets at a price higher than the value printed on the ticket at sporting events is illegal. Anyone convicted of ticket scalping can be charged with a misdemeanor and fined up to $300 for a first offense. Attorney General Nixon has gone after ticket scalpers in the past.

However, until the law goes into effect on November 28, 2007, our office needs your help. If you see an individual or business scalping tickets, try to get as much information about them as you can and then file a consumer complaint at ago.mo.gov.

How is it legal for these ticket brochure company's to some how buy up every ticket in 5 min. for a popular KIDS show and hold hard working parents hostage with outraguous ticket prices? When will someone finally take on this matter and allow people to pay the actual face value for a ticket? Not some rediculous inflated price that no hard working person could possiably afford.

This is about the Garth Brooks concerts in KC. How is it that minutes after Ticketmaster opens, tickets are available on Ebay for $$$$thousands? Garth intended to perform for his fans and elected a $25 ticket charge. He made tickets available to only the midwest, yet ticket scalpers from the entire country are making money off this. It's wrong and I encourage you to find them and fine them. They're all over Ebay.

Please tell us how to report these scalpers. They indeed are all over the internet and people who spent hours trying to get tickets for a reasonable amount are held hostage to those with programming or other helpful ways. How can we see that something is done to the e-bay sellers? All of their auctions have a disclaimer saying it is illegal to sell the tickets higher than face value...yet, they all the auctions are doing that very thing. Please empower us to do something about this so hard working people can enjoy these events!

The only way to stop scalping is to not buy tickets from anyone but the stadiums. But that won't ever happen. We are all in trouble.
